4711 Muelhens Street, K?ln Johann Maria Farina created 4711, also known as Eau de Cologne, and sold the rights and licences to the design company Muelhens in 1792. The scent is described as a refined fruity aroma intended to revitalise the senses as opposed to leaving a strong perfume trail. This scent begins with citrus top notes of bergamot, lemon, orange, and grapefruit. Strong middle notes of rose and rosemary with a faint floral undertone are backed by base notes of sandalwood, musk, neroli, and petitgrain.

4711 Muelhens Cologne, Before selling the rights and licences to the design firm of Muelhens in 1792, Johann Maria Farina invented 4711, which was originally known as Eau de Cologne. According to the description, the scent is a refined fruity aroma meant to revive the senses rather than leave a powerful perfume trail. Citrus top notes of bergamot, lemon, orange, and grapefruit introduce this fragrance. Strong base notes of sandalwood, musk, neroli, and petitgrain are supported by middle notes of rose and rosemary that have a slight floral undertone. Muelhens was the design firm that Wilhelm Muelhens owned and served as the parent business for 4711 and Tosca. Before it was sold and split up a few more times in the 1990s, the company was dubbed 4711 by the founder’s grandson after the Cologne address where Eau de Cologne first appeared. In the end, Maurer & Wirtz bought 4711 in 2006.
